How to Install the Meta Pixel (Facebook and Instagram) on Reservit Accommodation: Booking Tracking

Article summary: this guide explains how to install the Meta Pixel on your Reservit Accommodation booking engine. You can then measure the bookings generated by your Facebook and Instagram ads. Meta can calculate your campaign return and optimize your ads toward guests who actually book.

The 5 key steps to install the Meta Pixel:

  1. Get your Pixel ID from Meta Events Manager.

  2. Open the tag manager: "Management of my property" > "Reservation Page Customization" > "Tracking tags".

  3. Create the "Meta Pixel - PageView" tag on steps 1 to 4, to measure visits.

  4. Create the "Meta Pixel - ECommerce" tag on step 5, to record each booking and its amount.

  5. Save and check: the tags become active within 24 to 48 hours. Then check the events in Meta.

Why follow this guide? Without the pixel, Meta does not know which ads led to a booking, so your campaigns are optimized for clicks, not sales. With it, you see the revenue each campaign generates and can retarget visitors who did not finish their booking.

Before you start: find your Pixel ID

In Meta Events Manager (Meta Business Suite > All tools > Events Manager), select your pixel under Data sources. Copy its ID, a number of about 15 digits. Meta also calls it a "dataset": the ID is the same.

No pixel yet? Create one in Events Manager with Connect data > Web.

Step by step

  1. Click "Management of my property" > "Reservation Page Customization" > "Tracking tags".

Tag 1: visit tracking

  1. Click "New".

  2. Click "Common tags" > "Meta Pixel - PageView".

  3. In the code that appears, replace both occurrences of XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX with your Pixel ID: once in the fbq('init', …) line, and once in the facebook.com/tr?id=… line.

  4. Fill in the settings:

    • Label: for example "Meta - Visits".

    • List of pages concerned: tick steps 1 to 4. Mobile steps are included automatically. Do not tick step 5, which is covered by tag 2.

    • Location: choose the page header (<head>) if the option is available.

  5. Click "Save".

Tag 2: booking tracking

  1. Click "New" again, then "Common tags" > "Meta Pixel - ECommerce".

  2. Replace both occurrences of XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX with the same ID. Do not change the rest of the code: values in braces, such as {#amountTTC}, are filled in automatically by Reservit with each booking's amount, currency and number.

  3. Fill in the settings:

    • Label: for example "Meta - Bookings".

    • List of pages concerned: tick step 5 only (booking confirmation).

    • Location: the same as for tag 1.

  4. Click "Save".

  5. Once saved, allow 24 to 48 hours of validation before the tags become active.

Check that it works

Once the tags are active, open Events Manager > your pixel > Test events, then make a test booking: the PageView and then Purchase events should appear, with the amount and currency. You can also use the Meta Pixel Helper Chrome extension.

Good to know:

  • The pixel measures bookings that come from your Meta ads. To see in Reservit which bookings come from your Facebook page or Instagram profile, use the Facebook partner booking link: see How do I identify bookings coming from Facebook in Reservit?

  • If you also use Meta's Conversions API (often set up by an agency), talk to your Reservit contact before installing this tag, so that bookings are not counted twice.
